Chestnut – Year 1

Welcome to the page for Chestnut Class. We are Year 1 children and our teacher is Mrs Suzie Wright.

The Teaching Assistant helping in our class is Mrs Sullivan, with Mrs Chan for phonics and guided reading in the afternoon.

In the classroom we learn through a variety of ways, exploring a visual, audio and sensory approach. This might include lots of drama and drawing story maps or even green screen filming before we begin our writing. Similarly, we use the outdoor classroom to develop our maths and science skills.

We love art and craft activities and this supports our learning as well as developing our fine motor skills. We have PE and dance lessons every week, where we use the apparatus in the hall or practice our small equipment skills outside in our extensive school grounds.

We work hard, but we have lots of fun while we are learning. We also enjoy using the laptops for ICT.

With our teacher and teaching assistant we learn to work and play well together; we make progress with our reading, writing and maths, and we find out lots more about the world we live in through our topic, science and RE lessons.
